May queen (wildflowers)
This piece was visually inspired by the May Queen in Midsommar, as well as by the song "Wildflowers" by Dolly Parton. The lyrics I love in the song are:
"And the flowers I knew in the fields where I grew
Were content to be lost in the crowd
They were common and close, I had no room for growth
And I wanted so much to branch out
So I uprooted myself from my homeground and left
Took my dreams and I took to the road
When a flower grows wild, it can always survive
Wildflowers don't care where they grow"
Embroidery is created by hand, directly onto the postcard, using French cotton embroidery thread and hand-dyed silk thread.
The vintage photograph measures about 3.5"x5" and will arrive in a complimentary float frame to hold the free-flowing threads in place. The threads can be rearranged as desired, if reframed in the future. The piece will be signed and dated on the back in pencil.
